Guided Candlelight Meditation Sessions
- Do you want to meditate, but every time you try, you
feel as if you should be doing something else?
- Are you constantly being interrupted when you try to
meditate at home?
- Do you feel the need to meditate in the company of
kindred spirits?
- Does someone at home not respect your desire/need to
meditate?
- Do you think you'd do better with a guided
meditation than you would alone at home?
- Do you keep falling asleep when you try to meditate
by yourself?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you're not alone. It can
be difficult to meditate at home when you're around distractions and so much
obligation. These meditation sessions get you away from that by using
people's natural inclinations.
- People generally want their money's worth and are more likely to actually
come and meditate when they think they're wasting money if they don't.
- These sessions alleviate the feeling that you should be doing something
else. You have paid for this opportunity and you are coming here
exclusively to meditate. There is nothing else you should be doing.
Not only does meditation reduce your stress level, but meditation at night
before bed assures a more restful sleep. You can let go the cares of the
day and pre-pave a better day for tomorrow, all while attaining the meditation
goal you have set for yourself.
These sessions are offered on a monthly basis and you can show up as little
or as often as you like. Sessions run 5 nights a week with the exception
of major holidays (though some holidays, like New Year, I may hold special
sessions for those interested). You can come meditate with us for all five
days a week or even just once or twice a week - it's up to you and your
preference - and it doesn't even need to be the same number of days every week.
Think of it like a gym class for your mind - it's up to you how often you attend
and you will not be pressured about it. It is understood that your
attendance will vary according to your need. This is guided meditation,
so all you need to do is come willing to follow along.
Please be on time. Students can arrive as early as 9:30pm and they will
have a few minutes to greet other students and get set up before the meditation
begins promptly at 9:45pm. It will end no later than 10:45pm so that you
all can get home and get to bed.
Please...
- Do not bring children to sessions.
- Wear loose, non-binding clothing you will be comfortable sitting in for an
hour - you don't want to be distracted by a choker or a waistband that's too
tight, etc. I encourage all my students to wear their pajamas for these
sessions, but nothing you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing in front of your
Mom since this will be a co-ed
group. The goal is to meditate just before bed to maximize letting go
the troubles of the day so that you may go home and go to bed and have a
blissful night's sleep.
- Turn cell phones OFF or SILENT (even vibrate will disturb you and others)
for the duration of the session.
- Bring your zafu and zabuton (if you don't have a zafu or zabuton, a folded up blanket or throw
and a small pillow will work too.)
- Advise Cynthia if you are allergic to incense or candle scents.
